Explore Paradise: Our 10-day dream vacation in Mombasa

We started our adventurous journey in late May, a time when Mombasa enjoys warm and sunny weather. The journey included a stopover in Addis Ababa, where we spent the night on the comfortable SkyLight In-Terminal Hotel Before we flew to our final destination, Mombasa.

In Mombasa we stayed on the wonderful Prideinn Flamingo Beach Resort & Spa. The resort is known for its beautiful surroundings, comfortable facilities and excellent service.

Day 1-2: Arrival and relaxation

The first few days we spent relaxing by the pool and enjoying the tropical surroundings. The resort has several pools and a private beach, which made it easy to find a quiet place to relax. We were met with warmth and hospitality from the staff, who made sure we had everything we needed.

Day 3: Captain Bongo and Boat Trip

On the third day we met the legendary captain Bongo on the beach. With an infectious enthusiasm and a lot of stories, he invited us on an unforgettable boat trip. His boat, equipped with glass floors, took us on an adventure under the water surface. We enjoyed the spectacular view of the colorful underwater life, the fish that swam under us, and the wonderful coral reefs. Captain Bongo and his friend shared their extensive knowledge of the area, and we felt as explorers in search of the hidden treasures of the sea.

Day 4: Fort Jesus

On the fourth day, we decided to dive deeper into Mombasa's rich history with a visit to Fort Jesus. This impressive fort, built by the Portuguese in the 16th century, gave us a fascinating insight into the city's past. We walked through the ancient times, admired the robust walls and learned about the many battles and events that have shaped Mombasa over the centuries. Fort Jesus is not only a historical monument, but also a testimony of Mombasa's strategic significance and cultural diversity.

Day 5: The Mall and Local Markets

On day five we visited The Mall, a modern shopping center where we could trade souvenirs and enjoy some of the local delicacies. One of the highlights was the delicious ice creams we ate on a cafeserie, which offered a number of tasty variants. Afterwards we went to a local market to suck us atmosphere. Although we did not buy anything, it was fascinating to walk around and see the buzzing life, the colorful stalls and the many spices and vegetables sold. We also got the opportunity to try traditional dishes such as Ugali, Chapati and various seafood dishes, which really gave us a taste of local culture.

Day 6: Relaxation by the pool

That day there was a relaxation by the pool. We enjoyed the sun, swam and read books in the comfortable sun loungers.

Day 7: Wasini Island - Dolfinpotting and Snorkeling

One of the most exciting days was when we went to Wasini Island. This day trip can easily be booked through the hotel, which provides taxi and all necessary transport. We were given the opportunity to spot dolphins and snorkel at Kisite Marine National Park. Kisite Marine National Park is the second most famous marine park in the world after Australian Marine Park and covers an area of 28 km². The crystal clear water and the rich underwater life did this day unforgettable. Among the animals we saw were turtles, dolphins and a variety of colorful fish, which really made the snorkelling a magical experience.

Day 8-9: Strand walking and relaxation by the pool

The last two days of our vacation we spent enjoying the beautiful surroundings to the fullest. We started with a long and relaxing walk along the beautiful beach. We collected shells, bathed in the warm water and enjoyed the quiet atmosphere. Back at the resort we spent time at the pool, where we took a last swim and enjoyed refreshing drinks. We packed and got ready for the journey home, while taking in the last impressions of this wonderful place.

Day 10: Home Travel

On the last day we headed for the airport, traveled via Addis Ababa and came home with memories for life.

We enjoyed every moment of this holiday, from the fun monkeys that stole sugar from the bedroom, to the delicious food and the wonderful staff at the hotel. Everything was perfectly arranged for a dream trip. We highly recommend this destination to anyone who wants a holiday filled with experiences and relaxation.

 Some travel tips

Mombasa has a tropical climate with warm temperatures all year round. We were there in late May, which is in the rainy season. Despite this, the temperature was very comfortable, and the rain never lasted long. From December to March it is very warm and humid, while the period from June to September is a little cooler and drier. October to November and April to June are rainy season, with short but heavy rainfall.
